Feeling Overwhelmed With Mundane Tasks? Here’s The Next Best Thing To Cloning Yourself….

When it comes to working in the corporate world, oftentimes people will be given at least one assistant to make sure that workflow is done in an organized manner. The higher up you get with a company, the more the assistant can do to streamline the process of communication and beyond. When you are working alone to start your own business, you’ll most often find that the best way to hire an assistant is online – a virtual assistant. For those that are wondering what a virtual assistant is, the best way to describe the position is very much like an outside consultant, only they don’t work for others, they work for you.

If you are like me, trying to make a passive income online, hiring a good virtual assistant is a great step to take. You can work on a variety of tasks, but after a while, certain things are going to start falling through the cracks and may end up costing you money and possibly your  business if you don’t get things in order. Even if you’re great at multi-tasking, you won’t be able to get to everything, and it will become quite evident that you will need some help with getting work done. Now, you could hire someone to come to your office and sit with you, but that would mean added issues due to the fact you are actually hiring someone that will work onsite.

First of all, you would have to pay the person a salary and get some sort of insurance so that if they get hurt while in your office, you’re protected against suit. Ahhh…what do they call it? Workman’s compensation. Secondly, you will have to manage them on a certain level, and some people may need to be micromanaged, which can mean that you’re doing more work than you have to.

When you go the virtual route, you’ll be able to assign your virtual assistant the work that you need done, without having to deal with someone coming into your office or home at all. They take care of everything on their own, and they do it from a remote location online. This is definitely important for those that are busy with affiliate marketing, or trying to setup business online, as there are a lot of loose ends that need tying before you can reach the next level with your business.

If you have an assistant working on mundane details that you don’t have time for, then it’s important to consider how this might help you focus in on developing and expanding your online passive income business.  The old adage of, two heads are better than one, is definitely alive and well, and this idea of having a helper that is working remotely can be a true lifesaver in many ways.

Before you jump head first into hiring someone, make sure that you assess your needs and establish whether or not you are going to truly have enough work for a second person to get involved with your business. If you are not getting all that you want done in a day, you might be able to get more productive with a little help from someone online. This is a great way to streamline communication, scheduling, and much more.

There are plenty of places you can find quality virtual assistants. To name a few: odesk.com, timeetc.com, and elance.com should make good starting points.

Next Steps:

  1. Identify and list repetitive tasks that will be a part of  your day-to-day operations
  2. Identify which task(s) could truly be outsourced and determine the total amount of time (hrs.) saved as a result  – turn that time into dollars (you have to determine what your time is worth)
  3. Start visiting some of the sites I listed near the end of this post and find jobs that are similar to the work you need done. Check out the wording and then draft your job request.
  4. Identify cost, qualified candidates (based on experience and quality of work), and review agreements
  5. Hire your virtual assistant

Great advice to avoid burnout. But I really don’t want to go to the trouble of hiring another person when it comes to writing. It just kind of feels a little off. There’s no “you” in your work. That’s just a personal perspective though.

Understood…to each his own. I can certainly understand it if you’re a writer as well….tough to find someone to replicate your thoughts and style.

Besides writing, what types of things do you suggest hiring a personal assistant to do?

Good question, Sky….it really depends on what you need accomplished on a daily/weekly basis. For example:

      1. Scheduling meetings
      2. Checking your email
      3. Transcribe podcast (I can’t wait to get this task delegated)
      4. Maintain social media activity
      5. Proofread articles/post
      6. Place calls on your behalf

The above is just a tip of the iceberg. Identify your task(s), determine what needs to be delegated, and do your due diligence when it comes to pinpointing the right VA for you.

I think it’s mainly organizing and keeping your schedule in order while you do the main tasks. Having a ghost writer also helps.

What I really need is a VA that will come clean my house so I can get my work done!

If I could afford to pay someone, I could really use someone to help out. Unfortunately, any extra money I have right now is being put back into my online businesses.

Virtual assistants are wonderful things. I love being able to get help with tasks that I hate.

I think Virtual Assistants can be particularly helpful when it comes to researching for writing jobs. I get my VA to do a general sweep of the internet and compile all the information she finds on a word document which she sends through to me. Then I only have to trawl through relevant information already compiled together. This saves me heaps of time and enables me to spend more time writing.

Having a daily work plan broken down by hour would also help in avoiding getting side tracked and trying to do multiple tasks at same time.

Your words are giving me much help, i really get busy in my university tasks sometimes and unable to pay attention to my blog, hiring a VA might be helpful in this case.

I’m currently doing some sub work for a freelance writer, so I guess I’m her V.A. at the moment. Eventually I want to get to the stage where I’m the one hiring a V.A. to do my work!

Do you know what the going rate is for a V.A.? Is it wiser to pay them per hour or per job?

I would recommend starting out per job….based on their performance and your long-term need for a VA, you could transition it to hourly.
